Better technology means longer life
- 2-stroke engines rely on gas or air to carry a thin oil film to critical components. 4-strokes bathe every internal component in oil for consistent lubrication. This design also helps cool engine components, which improves durability.
- Ports in 2-stroke cylinders and pistons can accelerate piston and ring wear. Since there are no intake and exhaust ports in a 4-stroke cylinder or piston, they can operate with tighter tolerances for longer life.
More environmentally responsible
4-stroke outboards are approximately 90% cleaner than typical 2-strokes. And 4-stroke motors do not release oil directly into the water.
4-stroke outboards have ultra-low emissions. All these engines exceed the highest CARB 3-Star rating to meet the rigorous California Air Resource Board’s standards for 2009.
